Prosody is the set of features that describe the behavior of supersegmental units within a language (Cotticelli Kurras 2007, 634). As the name of a discipline, it is the field of linguistics concerned with said features. In the study of ancient languages, especially Indo-European ones, one of the most important concerns of prosodic research is the identification and description of accent typology and position, as this is frequently a significant factor in the definition of phonetic context that govern conditional sound laws.
