This Lexicon is metalinguistic and represents a structured explanation of the metalanguage and scientific framework developed by the PALaC team with selected relevant examples. The PALaC raw working data will, however, be also made available on a repository as a downloadable database at the end of the project, as required by the [https://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/docs/h2020-funding-guide/cross-cutting-issues/open-access-dissemination_en.htm Open Research Data Pilot of the European Commission]; when this will happen, a link will be added to this page, too. Aim of this Lexicon is to promote a consistent and well-defined set of descriptive labels for the study of ancient areas of cultural and linguistic interference.

A METALINGUISTIC LEXICON OF LANGUAGE CONTACT IN THE ANCIENT WORLD

This Wiki, which will constantly be updated, contains a lexicon of metalinguistic labels employed for the description of contact-linguistic scenarios involving ancient cultures and dead or extinct languages. The metalanguage is the one that was developed and refined by the team of the ERC project PALaC, that has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement n° 757299), and employed for the researches and publications of the project. Each voice is structures as follows:

  1. Lemma: standard metalinguistic label in English;
    1. Translations of the lemma in Italian, French and German;
    2. Article, containing the explanation of the label;
    3. Examples taken from the data analyzed for the PALaC project (when applicable);
    4. References

This Lexicon is a metalinguistic Wiki-based site. It does not claim to be completed: it will be maintained and enlarged also after the end of the PALaC project.
